Who would have thunk it? Summer is almost officially here and it looks like a long fucking one at that. In both good and bad ways…

Almost a year of jam-packed action. Running about for gigs, doing some bad-ass shows,  silk screening some really awesome posters, touring some pretty fine countries, making vegan and veggie food (some of us devouring souvlakia too), burning amps,  punching and kissing, singing and swearing, ridiculous amounts of alcohol, dangerous amounts of dust and some puke and mud here and there……  us here at K/S have decided we aren’t tired enough!

Part of the summer will be spent revamping our sticky hole! Ripping some things up, plastering some new ones,  cleaning shit, drawing on things..ah, some beer drinking and pogo-ing during lunch break.. then more sticking and cutting and fixing and improving.  Expect a cool new feel to the place, cause we’re also gonna be having some killer shows! We’ve still got some aces up our ripped sleeves, just gotta keep your eyes and ears sharp.

Hopefully, the other part of summer will be spent on a sandy beach somewhere, with a cold beer, good company and lots of music! Must collect some much needed energy and momentum, and we’ll be hitting you sooner than you think. now if you’ll excuse me, i gotta go get myself a drink.

Oh, p.s. If anyone feels like making donations, feel free to contact us here or at ks2009info@gmail.gr!  We accept  musical equipment, carpeting, posters, alcohol, money, air purifiers,  mini-vans, fake plants, post boxes, pictures of nude hairy men and other suggestions ;)

Mighty Mean May

Yes yes y’all and you don’t stop!

well… we do actually. we have to. but only for the summer. we’ll be back in the fall..oh just you wait!

but, before we wave Kalo Kaklokairiiii to y’all fine people, we have to make our grand exit.

The Plummet-Quartet also known as BAZOOKA will be playing hosts this Saturday May 15 at K/S and invite you all to their EP Release Show Frenzy! Literally!

Determined to hit the city like a bullet to the head, they’ve got 3 shows lined up and it’s gonna get heavy! They’re going from underground to overground and from city to sea…  They always were a bunch for mixing and meshing the elements. Sonic Youth, the Melvins, Black Flag, QOTSA and Throbbing Gristle are just some of the influences that come up while listening to their mix of post-punk grunge punk noise!

Equipped with two sharp guitars and two noisy drum sets, four different kinds of whack, eight different types of tight and many counts of heavy, Bazooka really do sit restlessly aside from other local bands. “Young, dumb and full of come”, they’ve already joined the devil’s league so don’t expect any panzy shit from this outfit: tense, loud and crazy enough to trick you into un/comfortable in/sanity.

Keep your eyes on these young bloods they’ll be making em rattle in their sockets! Pumped, loaded and charged, they are the musical firework to end this hot season. Adding some to the magic mix, Admiral Black repacked their bags and hopped a plane to open the show! :D Now aint that sweet !? :D

Homme Exotique DJ Nolo will warm the evening up, spinning tunes for boot shaking and elbow bending! Come share that hot sticky wet feeling!

Summer is pretty much up our arses (please cool down before The Heatwave hits), lots is buzzing, times are changing, and it’s in times like these when we must remember to pull our socks up and get our skates on. Brick by brick we’ll bring down these walls and plank by plank, we’ll  share the load and create something better.

It’s not always about What can others do for us?  But What can we do for ourselves?

::Next Gig:: Saturday May 8 // 202.Project // Angelos Kyriou // 1000 Beautiful Women

May 6, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Time flies. we all know that song…

…and the time has come for another cool show!  This time we’ve got something quite different, a treat, an ideal chance to unwind, reflect, take a deep breath and carry on with clarity.

One-man wondersoundmachine 202.Project will be taking our place by ambient storm!

JP  (aka John Player) aka 202. Project is no stranger to putting out records, playing or touring. With  hundreds of songs to count and a handful of releases to date,  he’s already toured Europe 5 times -just him and his van-  played with some top notch bands along the way and lucky for us, he’s doing it all over again!

This time stopping by our city for what promises to be a memorable show! And so, this Saturday May 8 we have the pleasure of presenting a man who truly does do it himself!

Packing little more than a guitar, some keys, a laptop and some knobs and buttons to fiddle with, this chum can conjure up as much heart-thumping noise as he can weave emotionally charged soundscapes.  Delicate vocals mix with samples, loops and bleeps, the atmosphere darkens and eventually fades to black. Encompassing anything from blues to walls of sound, we can’t wait to take a deep breath and trip out on some seriously cool music! If you’ever ever liked anything dark, atmospheric,  experimental or belonging to the avant garde world of looming sound, you might wanna check this shit out!

JP aka John Player aka 202.Project will also be hitting other greek cities, so check his page for more info, in case he’s playing in a town near you!

Now, you may think Angelos Kyriou is an easy-peasy pop opener. But, turns out there’s more beneath these seemingly tame waters. Twisting keys, vocals and strings to create small distorted worlds each time, his songs are more like the soundtrack to a weird-ass dream, rather than something you can actually sing along to. His  stop-start, cut-and-mix samples and swooshes  go well with the surreal vocals, which can go from lament to paranoia, and from prayer to nightmare within bleeps.  Definitely an interesting and challenging approach to the concept of  ‘singersongwriter‘.

To begin the night, dynamic lo-fi and static tension duo  1000 Beautiful Women take the stage to deliver their take on all things noise. Four hands,  lots of reverb, truckloads of sound. A guitars scratches, a  female voice travels, minds slowly burn.  End of Transmission.  This is a schizophrenic’s sonic wet dream.

Stay tuned for updates, info and an unexpected suprise!  (hint hint…the ash has settled ;)

That’s Thank You in Finnish! so now you know.

A great show Tuesday at our lil’ ol damp hole!  Despite it being mid-week, despite the fact that Athens was a bit of a mess, some of you still came on down  and showed your support!  Either by  lending us equipment, making food or just showing a smiley face at the door. Times are rough, people can be pretenders and everyone’s pocket is so empty, your help in any way was much appreciated guys! :D
